Kindergarten, 5 minutes walk away in the city of Magong. Magong is the major city of
Penghu, a pleasant collection of 64 islands sitting on the Tropic of Cancer in the Chinese
strait. The population is around 100,000 people, where 60% of them live in Magong city.
There are many tourist attractions on the islands that bring a busy Summer season to the
streets especially the 2 month long Firework Festival in April. Others include; crystal clear
beaches with breath taking snorkelling and diving spots, water sports such as
Windsurfing and surfing, stunning geological formations made up of basalt rocks due to
ancient volcanic explosions and many more.
The landscape is overall levelled and the wildlife is abundant in migratory birds, coral and
marine species. Penghu enjoys a long summer with hot and humid weather majority of
the time. The winter is short but windy, whereby rain is minimal.
This Teaching post is a unique and a particular choice. The lifestyle is very laid back and
it’s a contrast to a job in a city on the mainland, however Magong doesn’t lack any
essentials you may worry about it missing. This includes a Movie Theater, Music
concerts, shopping facilities and night life. Last but not least; the cost of living is quite
low, so if you want to save, Penghu would be the place to do it.
