English Teacher at Dual-Immersion School

Details: The Centro de Estudios Interamericanos (CEDEI), a non-profit academic institution with over 20 years of experience dedicated to the understanding of languages and cultures of the Americas, is located in Cuenca, Ecuador. CEDEI is currently seeking qualified English teachers for all content areas to work in our dual-immersion preschool and K-12 program.
Qualified English teachers are needed for all content areas in Cuenca, Ecuador. This opportunity is posted by Centro de Estudios Interamericanos (CEDEI), a non-profit institution of higher learning founded in 1992, dedicated to the study of American languages and cultures. To promote understanding among the people of the Americas, our organization sponsors various academic activities independently and in conjunction with universities in North and South America.
Cuenca, Ecuador, situated high in a valley in the southern Andes, is a city with a population of over 500,000 and is the third largest in the country. Enjoying spring-like temperatures year-round, Cuenca was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999 and has recently been considered one of the best places to live and retire.
CEDEI is looking for English teachers for all content areas, teaching children in our preschool, elementary, and high school. Qualifications required include a Bachelor’s Degree, a TEFL/CELTA/TESOL or related certificate, and native English speaker or native-like fluent English speaker. Desired qualifications also include experience working with various grade levels and content areas.
Teachers can expect 16-22 contact hours per week with opportunities for extra tutoring. The school day is from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm, Monday to Friday. CEDEI provides an environment where teachers are supported in their professional development by our International Coordinator and have access to materials from our resource room.
Term Start Dates:
The term starts on Monday, August 28, 2017. Teachers are expected to arrive by Monday, August 14, to participate in a two-week, paid orientation before the cycle starts and to arrange accommodations.

Upon receipt and approval of your résumé, three letters of reference, and the online application form, we will schedule a telephone interview with you.
Teachers will receive $430 per month for four days per week. Those with a BA in Education are paid $450 per month, and those with an MA in Education or related field are paid $470 per month. Teachers working five days per week will receive a corresponding 20% increase per month. Tutorial classes based on student needs are also available.
CEDEI is a non-profit organization, and while teachers may not earn a lot by international standards, the compensation is sufficient for a comfortable living in Ecuador, offering valuable teaching experience and cultural exchange. Additional perks include free Spanish classes and computer use with internet access (wireless at all our sites), salsa dance instruction, and access to a lending library. CEDEI also assists in finding accommodations in Cuenca and offers optional low-cost health insurance. Visa and airfare fees are the teacher’s responsibility, but CEDEI sponsors a volunteer visa that they will partially reimburse.

Senior High School (Grade 10-12)

Ⅲ. Job Description
1. Working Hours: Monday to Friday on a semester basis;
2. Teaching Hours: 22 teaching periods per week;
3. Average Class Size: 20-25;
4. Give Lessons including planning and preparation as well as course development;
5. Conduct course assessment and student academic counseling.

Ⅳ. Job Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree or above in education or related majors;
2. Native English speaker or English skills equivalent to native level;
3. At least three years teaching experience;
4. Teaching Certificate, PGCE,QTS or equivalent is preferred;
5. Caring, suitable and safe to work with children.

1. Monthly salary before tax: RMB 28,000 - 40,000 plus housing allowance
