Details: The mission of the Teach and Travel Program is to offer participants the opportunity to travel abroad for a short period of time and teach English and/or arts to Dominican students. In doing so, we intend to create a partnership between our teachers and our students, where one end learns important life and language skills while the other takes advantage of the opportunity to become immerse in a new culture.
Our program is one of the few teach and travel programs available that offers participants compensation for their service offered. Our program is constantly evaluated by participants and staff in order to continuously improve the quality of the experience that our teachers enjoy. During orientation week we make sure participants practice lesson planning and understand what is expected from them. The teaching schedule leaves plenty of time for you to travel and get to know other parts of the country in your free time. Details: The Province of Hermanas Mirabal is located in the interior of the Dominican Republic, holding a space measuring about 443 km2, with an approximate population of 100,000 inhabitants.
La Oficina Técnica Provincial was assigned and designed as a space where all planning concerning the province Hermanas Mirabal mainly takes place, with the contribution of main important foundations, local authorities, and with the support of the Ministry of Education. The intention is to develop quality educational experiences between a government and non-government alliance (co-management), one for primary education at the Escuela Hermanas Mirabal de Ojo de Agua, with 350 students, and another for secondary education at the Liceo Cientifico Dr. Miguel Canela Lazaro with 550 students.
In both cases, they are free public educational centers, in which we are applying the STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics), in a framework of inclusion and multiculturalism.
To continue promoting these initiatives of quality education for low-income students, we are looking for educators and international professionals who have graduated from universities, who are encouraged by a social commitment and want to support us for a year or more to strengthen experiences.
We can offer housing, and a monthly collaboration of about 800 dollars. (Spanish speaking is not required)

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Elementary homeroom teachers are the primary teachers responsible for their class. Homeroom teachers must teach English, maths, science, and social studies and there is flexibility in the timetable for each teacher to include special classes such as reading, music or life lessons. Teachers will teach 4-5 lessons with 2-3 prep periods a day. This equates to approximately 16-25 teaching hours per week.
Middle and high school subject teachers are responsible for planning and teaching lessons in their subject to all classes either in middle or high school. Generally, teachers are based in one classroom and the students rotate between their classes. Teachers will have an average of 3-5 classes per day which should equate to approximately 16-25 teaching hours per week.

We are looking for an elementary teacher who would work with students ranging in age from about 6 to 14, but mainly with the 6 to 8 year olds. We are a Canadian non-profit and provide low cost to free education for the local children in the area, so it isn’t a position where you’d be saving money or paying off loans but it is a good salary for her in the DR and will be enough to allow you to live comfortably while here, as well as providing you with an amazing, once in a life time experience.

Details: Experienced teachers willing to participate in a highly rated private school. Guides the students in the development of their curriculum, communicates to parents about the progress of their children. Details: The Academia Internacional de Cabrera (AIC) is fully staffed for the 2009-2010 school year. However, the school is actively seeking CVs/resumes from energetic, creative teachers who are flexible and available in the event that one of our current staff leaves on short notice (e.g., due to a family emergency). AIC was established 2 years ago in the small town of Cabrera on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. The aim of the school is to provide a quality, affordable bilingual education (Spanish and English) to local children.
The pre-K through 7th grade school has around 100 students (90 Dominicans and about a dozen foreign students, mostly from the US). There are currently 7 core staff (from the US), 3 local Spanish/social studies teachers, and several ancillary staff. AIC follows and adapted US curriculum and encourages teachers to integrate skills through project-based instruction. Unlike the local public schools, AIC offers full-day instruction (from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM). The school is relatively well resourced, but obtaining teaching materials and services such as photocopying and Internet connectivity can be challenging.
Incoming teachers would teach a class from pre-school to 7th grade. There is significant demand for English instruction by parents and other community members, so teachers with ESL/EFL teaching experience are encouraged to apply. Some knowledge of Spanish (or a willingness to learn) is very helpful for communication with students, parents and fellow teachers.
Cabrera is a small village along the picturesque North Coast of the country. It has a very authentic parque in the center of town, which is alive with music, dancing, Cuba libres and just being seen on the weekends. The town is peaceful and safe, with excellent access to a half-dozen world-class beaches (5-15 minutes drive in either direction).

Foreign teachers are provided $500/month and a small housing allowance – enough to live comfortably (but not extravagantly) in Cabrera. Unfortunately, travel expenses to and from the DR cannot be covered.
